On a fresh Monday morning, the DrawHistory family competed in ‘Scurry in a Hurry’ (the Amazing Race with a Difference) around the Perth CBD as part of WA’s Social Impact Festival. We split into two teams where Team Tawandafuls and Team Dab Squad were birthed. Holding onto an Ethical Fashion Guide, Ethical Electronics Guide and a map both teams were ready to win. As the clock ticked, team members drew on their curiosity and greatness to solve 8 powerful challenges around the city. Hustling together, teams hurried to solve each challenge to gain clues to the final destination where victory and bragging rights were waiting.
The challenges took us through streets of murals and amazing stores from Grill’d to Mimco. The clues took us to places that gives each customer beer caps to vote for their community organisation they want to support (Grill’d) and Mexican’s with a mission with a plate for plate initiative (Zambreros). We then went to search for brands where workers are not exploited, are paid adequately and are able to work free from the tyranny of modern slavery.
Some challenges were harder than others, but it allowed us to work as a team while bringing out the competitive side of us (some more than others!) and most importantly, bond as a family.
Can you think of a place in the city filled with dried leaves and whose name can be seen at many airports? Team Tawandafuls sure could, which led us to victory. Tawanda, Leonie and I were fortunate enough to win a huge bundle of Thankyou products and Cadbury goodies. Better luck next time Team Dab Squad! Overall, ‘Scurry in a Hurry’ was a huge success and brought the team closer than ever. I would like to thank Angel for all organising this and we hope she enjoyed creating those curious challenges as must as we all did solving them!
